PSU Athletics, KKOW Radio Ink Three-Year Contract Extension

PITTSBURG —Pittsburg State University athletics director Jim Johnson announced today (Aug. 6) that the Gorillas have signed a three-year contract extension with American Media Investments allowing KKOW Radio (860 AM) to continue to serve as the school's flagship station.

KKOW Radio will begin its 25th season as "Voice of the Gorillas" in 2014.

"We are excited to be able to reach an agreement on a three-year contract with AMI," Johnson said. "We have enjoyed a great partnership over the years and have worked to enhance that relationship as we can."

As a change with the new contract, PSU Athletics now will own and produce the Tim Beck Radio Show, which will air Monday nights – starting on Sept. 1 – from 6:05 p.m. until 7 p.m.

KKOW Radio sports director Eddie Lomshek will continue to host the show, which will feature a new format including not only commentary from head coach Tim Beck but also weekly appearances from Pitt State assistant coaches and Gorillas players as well as new special segments.

The show will air live on location in Pittsburg.

"We are excited for this new venture with AMI on the Tim Beck Show," Johnson said. "It opens the door for PSU Athletics to explore new revenue opportunities as well as give our fans new weekly insights into Gorilla football."

In addition to the contract extension, Lomshek will serve as the play-by-play "Voice of the Gorillas" on game days. He's a 17-year veteran of the KKOW broadcast team. Former All-American quarterback Zac Dickey also will join the broadcast crew in 2014 as the color analyst, while former Gorilla B.J. Harris returns to handle the sideline duties this fall.

"We are pleased and excited to continue our relationship with Pitt State through football and basketball broadcasts," Lomshek said. "Gorilla Athletics is one of the staples of our stations and to be able to continue to serve as the broadcast voice of the Gorillas is exciting for us.

"We value our relationship with Pitt State coaches and administrators, and it's great to know that will continue to grow with this extension."
