PITTSBURG — The Lindenwood University baseball team capitalized on a four-run second inning and a strong starting pitching performance from Tyler Cassmeyer as the Lions claimed a 7-2 victory over Pittsburg State University Sunday (Mar. 4).
Pitt State (11-5, 5-1 MIAA) saw its seven-game winning streak halted in the contest as LWU (10-6, 3-3 MIAA) salvaged the final game of its three-game series against the Gorillas.
Josh Whisler, Reece Garvie and Tyson Cushman each collected two hits in the contest.
Cassmeyer (3-1) allowed just two earned runs in seven innings of work, registering seven strikesouts. Michael Cessna worked the final two innings for the Lions.
Brendan Stanek (2-2) was charged with six earned runs in 4 1/3 innings of work. Cooper Gardner, Cort Lesmeister and Conner Davis limited the Lions to one run over the final 4 2/3 innings of relief work.
The Gorillas will return to action Tuesday (Mar. 6A) when they host Wayne State College in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. (CST) at Al Ortolani Field.
