WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team flexed its muscles early but the Gorillas couldn't hold off No. 10 University of Central Missouri in a hard fought 3-1 decision Friday (Oct. 25).
With the win the Jennies improved to 15-6 overall and 8-3 in the MIAA, while the Gorillas fell to 11-11 overall and 6-7 in the conference.
The first set saw Pitt State down 2-0 early, but the Gorillas capitalized on six attack errors by Central Missouri to take a 14-10 lead midway through the set. The Jennies took a second to regroup and went on an 8-0 run to regain the lead at 18-14. Despite being down, the Gorillas continued to battle and tied the match at 21 before taking the lead for good in the match, 25-22. Erika Ivkov led the way for the Gorillas with four kills in the set.
The Gorillas came out firing in the second set and led 5-3 but the Jennies battled and took the second set, 25-16. The Jennies then took control of the third set and won, 25-13, before closing out the match with a 25-14 advantage in set four.

The Gorillas had eight kills from Ivkov to lead the squad and seven more from Meg Auten.
Pitt State will close out the weekend action with a Saturday (Oct. 26) match against No. 14 Northwest Missouri State University. The Gorillas will return to John Lance Arena next Tuesday (Oct. 29) to battle Newman University.
