KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team rallied from 14 points down with 13:33 to play in regulation to force overtime and the Gorillas eventually pulled away in the extra session for a 79-76 victory over the University of Nebraska-Kearney in the first round of the MIAA Postseason Tournament Wednesday (Mar. 4).
The No. 10 seed Gorillas (12-17) advance to the tournament quarterfinals Thursday (Mar. 5) when they'll meet No. 2 Rogers State University at 8:15 p.m. (CST). The No. 7 seed Lopers end their season with a 16-13 record.
A.J. Walker scored a team-leading 21 points to fuel the Pitt State comeback. He posted a double double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while adding five assists as well. Jah-Kobe Womack chipped in with 17 points, 14 in the second half and OT after the Gorillas trailed 36-33 at the break.
Christian Edmondson added 12 points and Antonio Givens II finished with 10.
The Gorillas finished the game +12 in the rebounding department against UNK, including a 14-6 advantage on the offensive glass.
UNK's Morgan Soucie led all scorers with 26 points, while Jake Walker (13) and A.J. Jackson (12) also scored in double figures.
