PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University volleyball team beat the Jets of Newman University Tuesday (Oct. 18) night at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court, 3-0.
The Gorillas got off to a hot start taking the first set, 25-22, behind four kills from Meg Auten and Janae Thurston. In set two, the Gorillas jumped on the arm of Seville Gates as her four kills powered PItt State to a 25-20 win. In the third and final set, middle hitters Phoenix Bailey and Kate Bandre both fired in five kills as the Gorillas cruised to a 25-13 win to complete the sweep.
Auten and setter Brianna Richard had double-doubles on the evening with Auten posting 10 kills and 10 digs. Richard added 39 assists and 10 digs. Libero Marissa Bates led the Gorillas in the digs category with 16.
The Gorillas (14-10, 8-7 MIAA) will be back in action this Saturday (Oct.18) as they host the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri State University for Senior Night at 6 p.m. (CDT).
