PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team shot 62.9 percent from the field to propel the Gorillas past Newman University, 101-78, Saturday (Jan. 28) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The hot shooting Gorillas made 32 of 69 shots from the floor in the contest, including 11 3-point field goals. Pitt State (17-4, 12-3 MIAA) notched its seventh consecutive victory while eclipsing the century mark in scoring for the second time this season.
Erin Davis matched her career high scoring output with 21 points. She made her first seven shots, including a perfect 6-for-6 from 3-point range, as she tallied 20 points in the first half as the Gorillas took a 57-44 lead at the break.
Grace Pyle (17), Harper Schreiner (14), Tristan Gegg (12) and Karenna Gerber (12) also scored in double figures for Pitt State. Pyle posted a team-leading seven rebounds, while Schreiner dished out six assists.
Newman (6-13, 3-11 MIA) got a game-high 34 points from Britney Ho, who made 15 of 26 shots in the contest. Maddie Spagnola added 19 points for the Jets.
The Gorillas face a pair of road games next week as Pitt State travels to Warrensburg, Mo., Thursday (Feb. 2) to battle No. 7 University of Central Missouri and to Jefferson City, Mo., Saturday (Feb. 4) to take on Lincoln University.
