PITTSBURG — The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith outscored the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team, 19-2, to open the second half and rally for an eventual 76-71 road win Saturday (Jan. 31).
The Gorillas (12-8, 6-4 MIAA) took a 40-31 lead to the break, but the No. 17 ranked Lions (16-4, 7-4 MIAA) scored the first 14 points of the second half, eventually pushing ahead 58-47 with 9:45 to play in the game.
Pitt State scratched back into the game, pulling within a point, 72-73, on two free throws by
Alijah Curry with 13 seconds to play, but UAFS's Brandon Scott made four free throws in the waning seconds to seal the five-point win.
Connor Rogers scored a team-leading 26 points for Pitt State.
Mason English added 12 points, while
Donald Coats finished with nine points and five rebounds.
Scott fired in a game-high 28 points to lead the Lions, while Jarren McAllister added 20 points and Christian Moore finished with 12.
The Gorillas will travel to Emporia, Kan., Thursday (Feb. 4) for a road game against MIAA rival Emporia State University.
