TOPEKA, Kan. - The Pittsburg State University softball team ended the weekend on the road with a sweep over the Washburn University Ichaobds on Saturday (Mar. 28) at Gahnstrom Field. In the process of sweeping the Ichabods the Gorillas notched the program's 1,400th win with the game one victory.
Pitt State (34-1, 8-0 MIAA) claimed the doubleheader against WU (24-15, 1-9 MIAA) 6-0 in game one and 11-3 in a run rule six inning performance in game two.
Emma Crabb (12-0) came away with a complete game shutout performance in the circle in game one, striking out five Ichabods while issuing out no walks.
Lexi Davis finished 3-of-4 with a game-high three RBI.
Alleyna Rushing led the team with a pair of runs scored and was one of five Gorillas to collect multiple hits.
In game two, the Gorillas collected 13 hits, five of which were extra bases and got on base from five walks and a pair of hit by pitches.
Heather Arnett went 3-of-5 with a team-high four RBI, as
Kadyn Trochim,
Sailor Hall and
Rachael Schlotter each also finished with multiple runs driven in.
Trista Peterson led the team with three runs scored while going 2-of-2 as
Kyleigh Lamont and Schlotter both scored twice. In the circle,
Lexi Franklin (9-0) picked up the win with 4.2 innings of work, with no earned runs given up. Hall came in to pitch the final 1.1 innings of the game, coming away with three strikeouts in a shutout relief outing.
Up next for Pittsburg State will be the Rogers State University Hillcats on Friday (Apr. 3). First pitch from the Pittsburg State Softball Field is set for 2:00 p.m. (CDT) of game one of a twin bill.
