Pitt State Tops Among DII Schools in Academic All-America Placement Since 1990

Pittsburg State University has led the NCAA Division II membership at producing CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in each of the past two full decades.

Pittsburg State produced 47 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans during the decade of the 2000s to lead all NCAA Division II schools nation-wide; and the school produced 39 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans during the decade of the 1990s.

The Gorillas remain among the top 10 NCAA Division II institutions in academic all-america placement in the first two years of the decade of the 2010s. During the past 22 years, Pittsburg State has produced 90 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.

Pittsburg State University and Truman State University finished the decade of the 2000s ranking one-two among NCAA Division II institutions at producing CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association led all Division II conferences in CoSIDA Academic All-America placement during the decade.

Pittsburg State and Truman produced 47 and 45 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans (as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America) from January 2000 to December 2009 to lead all Division II institutions for the decade. Wingate University was third (34), followed by Missouri University of Science and Technology (31) and the University of Indianapolis (30).

On a national scope, Pittsburg State ranked in a tie for 10th place among all school nationwide in CoSIDA Academic All-America placement during the decade of the 2010s.

Pitt State currently ranks in a tie for ninth place among Division II schools in CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in the first year-and-a-half of the 2010s.

Additionally, the Pittsburg State football program produced 16 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans during the decade of the 2000s – tops among Division II programs and fourth overall behind Dayton, North Dakota and Penn State.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must first earn first-team All-District honors following a vote of CoSIDA members in each district.

To qualify for nomination to the all-district ballot, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better, have attended the school at least two terms, be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility and be a starter or key reserve in their respective sport.

Four of PSU’s CoSIDA Academic All-America honorees have been additionally honored as the CoSIDA Academic All-America® of the Year for their respective sport:  Christie Allen, track & field, 1993; Eric Miller, baseball, 1994; Jenny Pracht, women’s basketball, 1996; Ryan Meredith, football, 2006.
