Pat Cashmore recently completed his third year as a member of the Pitt State coaching staff after joining the Gorillas in December 2019. He serves as Special Teams Coordinator and Running Backs Coach.
Cashmore came to Pitt State after serving as the Special Teams Coordinator/Offensive Graduate Assistant at Oklahoma State University the past two seasons (2018-19). In addition to creating weekly special teams game plans and scouting reports, he also assisted with running backs and wide receivers.
As a team, Pitt State ranked sixth in NCAA Division II in kickoff returns in 2022 (25.38 ypr) and the Gorillas led Division II in kickoff return defense (12.68 ypr). Additionally, running back Caleb Lewis earned first-team All-MIAA honors, rushing for 970 yards and 12 touchdowns.
In 2021, Pitt State ranked 10th in NCAA Division II in kickoff returns in 2021 and return specialist Dallis Flowers ranked second individually in Division II in kickoff returns (33.7 ypg). Additionally, placekicker Cross Holmes led NCAA Division II in field goals (18, 2.0 pg).
Prior to his time at OSU, Cashmore served during the 2016-17 seasons as Special Teams Quality Control at the University of Toledo. The Rockets captured the MAC Championship in 2017. Cashmore helped coach placekicker Jameson Vest who made first-team All-MAC as well as Diontae Johnson (Pittsburgh Steelers) who garnered first-team All-MAC as a punt returner and second-team All-MAC as a kickoff returner.
In 2014-15, Cashmore served as Specials Teams Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Reivers posted an 11-1 record in 2014 and advanced to the NJCAA National Championship in Biloxi, Miss. In 2015, Iowa Western posted a 10-2 record and finished the season ranked No. 3 in NJCAA. While with the Reivers, he coached Rico Gafford who went on to the University of Wyoming and now plays for the Green Bay Packers.
Cashmore started his career as a graduate assistant coach at Midland University in Fremont, Neb., from 2012-13, serving as Outside Linebackers Coach.
A native of Kansas City, Mo., Cashmore attended St. Pius X High School before going on to Drake University where he was part of the 2011 Pioneer League League champion squad.
Cashmore earned a bachelor’s of science in business administration degree from Drake in December 2011. He earned a master’s of education degree in leadership in teaching and learning from Midland in July 2015.
He is married to the former Lex Cochrane of Fort Dodge, Iowa.
