Bill Bleil enters his second year as an assistant football coach at Pittsburg State University. Bleil serves as the Gorillas’ Offensive Line Coach / Run Game Coordinator.

Bleil came to Pitt State from FCS member Stephen F. Austin University where he served the past two seasons (2022-23) as offensive line coach.

Bleil has enjoyed a decorated coaching career that spans four decades. Among his previous stops, Bleil served as head coach at Western Carolina for five seasons, from 1997-2001, earning Southern Conference Coach of the Year in 2001. He served as Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach at WCU in 1996.

Bleil made additional coaching stops at Mary Hardin-Baylor (2020-21), Lamar (2018-19), Missouri Southern (2016-17), Rhode Island (2015), Iowa State (2010-14), Akron (2005-09), Pittsburgh (2004), Northern Illinois (2003), Pacific (1992-95) and Northwestern (1991), Eastern New Mexico (1985-89), Dana College (1984) and New Mexico Highlands (1982-83).

Bleil served as assistant head coach at Akron, Iowa State and Lamar and also was defensive coordinator at New Mexico Highlands and Dana and offensive coordinator at Eastern New Mexico, Pacific and Rhode Island.

A native of Remsen, Iowa, Bleil was a two-time NAIA All-District performer at linebacker at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. He earned a bachelor’s of arts degree in physical education from Northwestern in 1981 and a master’s of arts degree in physical education from New Mexico Highlands in 1982.

Bill and his wife, Laurel, have two adult sons, Kevin and Tim Bleil, and three granddaughters. Kevin serves as the Gorillas’ offensive coordinator, while Tim is an assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin.
