Dr. Ryan Sorell begins his second year at Pittsburg State University as a team physician, alongside Dr. Michael Zafuta, specializing in Primary Care Sports Medicine.
 
Dr. Sorell attended Pittsburg State for his undergraduate education (BS 2010, BS 2011). During his time at PSU he competed for the baseball team as a pitcher under hall of fame coach Steve Bever. Following his sophomore season he had Tommy John surgery, performed by Dr. Zafuta, and went on to lead the team in wins in both his junior and senior seasons.
 
Following his career as a Gorilla, Dr. Sorell received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Ind., and a Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Fayetteville, Ark.
 
Prior to returning to Pitt State as part of the Freeman Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine team, Dr. Sorell had the opportunity to work alongside the team physicians for the University of Notre Dame and the University of Arkansas to provide care for the student athletes those institutions. During his time at Arkansas he served as a member of the sports medicine team that helped support Razorback athletics en route to nine SEC team titles and the Division 1 Women’s Track and Field Indoor National Championship during the 2020-2021 campaign.
 
Dr. Sorell is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and is board certified in Family Medicine with a certificate of added qualification in Sports Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine.
 
Ryan and his wife, Megan, a fellow PSU alum (BSE 2010), have three children: Neely, Nolan, and Marlee. The Sorell’s reside in Pittsburg.
