Box Score PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pitt State Volleyball team was successful on the court as well as off on Wednesday night, as the team defeated Drury 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-17 and worked to raise money for the care of breast cancer patients during their annual Gorillas Block Breast Cancer match. 

With the help of the Gorilla Women's Basketball team, Pitt State collected at least $10 for every block by the Gorillas in the match, with solo blocks counting as one block and block assists counting as two. As a team, PItt State had three solo blocks and eight block assists. With the generosity of the PSU faithful, the team was able to collect well over the $110. All monies raised will be turned over to Angels Among Us, a local group that provides supports of all forms for local cancer patients. 

Pitt State's top individual blocker in the match was Brooke Fay, who had four solo blocks and two block assists. Crystal Whitten added three blocks, Haylee Gergory had two and Leah Flynn and Nicole Rockhold each recorded one.

The Gorilla's offense was sharp, as the team hit at a .427 clip for the match, including a .500 hitting percentage in the first set. Five of the six players recorded kills hit over .400 for the match. Rockhold and Whitten led the team with 10 kills a piece. Rockhold hit .450 and Whitten hit .421. Leah Flynn led the team with a .667 hitting percentage, recording four kills in six attempts with no errrors. Fay and (.600) Paula Okrutna (.400) each put down seven kills and each had only one hitting error. Haylee Gregory added five kills.

Becca Pearson led the team with 19 assists, though Hayley Hansford was not far behind with 17. 

Okrutna and Christa McCaw led the team in digs with eight a piece. 

The Gorillas held the Drury offense to just a .113 hitting percentage. Alex Smith led all players with 15 kills.

Pitt State will play a rare Sunday match, as the team will travel to Northwest Missouri to take on the Bearcats at 2 p.m. on October 14.
