Box Score HAYS, Kan. -- The Pitt State Volleyball team (12-12, 3-9 MIAA) lost a close five-set match, 3-2, to Fort Hays State (23-10, 7-7 MIAA).
The Gorillas won the first set 25-23, but fell in set two 25-22. Set three saw the Gorillas go up two sets to one with a 25-17, but a Tiger win in the fourth set, 25-20, forced a fifth set that the home team took 15-4.
Pitt State's Brooke Fay and Crystal Whitten led the match with 15 kills a piece. Whitten was just one dig short of a double-double with nine digs. Fay also led the Gorillas with four blocks. Nicole Rockhold recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 17 digs. Christa McCaw led all players with 24 digs. Becca Pearson recorded a double-double as she led the team with 36 assists and 11 digs. Haylee Gregory also recorded double digit kills with 10.
Fort Hays State had three players hit in double figures led by Madison Schwartz with 15. Five players had double digit digs, led by Tara Hoekman with 21.
PItt State returns home this weekend to play Washburn at 7 p.m. on Friday and Emporia State at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
