PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State Volleyball team will host its annual Gorillas Block Breast Cancer match on Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m. against Drury.

Pitt State holds its Gorillas Block Breast Cancer match each year during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The team works in conjuction with Angels Among Us, Via Christi Cancer Center and Jock's Nitch, not only to raise awareness, but also to raise funds to further cancer reaserch and to help support cancer patients and their families.

Via Christi and Angels Among Us will both have tables with information and giveaways set up before the match. Pink cupcakes from Sweet Designs Cakery will be for sale. Jock's Nitch will be giving free T-shirts to the first 50 Pitt State students at the game.

In addition to the pre-match activities, the women's basketball team will canvass the crowd between each set to collect money for each block the volleyball team achieves. The goal is to collect at least $10 per block.

The evening will also be the last chance for Gorilla fans to bring items for the Gorillas SAAC Hunger Food Drive. The food drive is to specifically collect items for elementary school students who go hungry on the weekends. Items being collected include granola or cereal bars, individual sized boxes of cereal, juice boxes, fruit cups, jullo or pudding cups, peanut butter, crackers, beef jerkey, pop top cans of ravioli or soup, ready to eat tuna or chicken salad kits and raisins.
