Box Score JOPLIN, Mo. -- Although they will not be advancing to post-season play, the PIttsburg State volleyball team was able to end the season on a high note Saturday (November 10) night. The team posted a 3-0 win over Missouri Southern to finish the season with a 17-13 overall record.

The Gorillas won the match by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-16. The team hit .302 for the match, put down 6.0 team blocks and recorded 34 digs. Missouri Southern hit only .111, had 4.0 team blocks and 23 digs. 

Crystal Whitten led the Gorillas with 13 kills. Nicole Rockhold added 11 kills and a team high 11 digs. Brooke Fay added nine kills and led the team with four blocks. Kirsten Erikson added three blocks. Whitten, Paula Okrutna and Sam Wyatt each recorded two service aces for Pitt State.

Missouri Southern was led by Katie Politte with 10 kills.

Pitt State finishes the 2012 season with a 17-13 overall record and a 7-10 record in league play. This is the first winning season for the volleyball program since 2009. The future look bright as the team graduates four seniors, but returns three juniors, two sophomores and nine freshman for the 2013 season.
