Porter Sparks Pitt State to 86-78 Victory Over Lincoln

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Freshman guard Kaleb Porter poured in a game-high 34 points to spark Pitt State to an 86-78 victory over Lincoln in game one action of the Chris Tucker Memorial Classic Friday (Nov. 16).

Porter scored 20 points in the second half as the Gorillas (2-0) overcame a 45-41 halftime deficit agains the Blue Tigers (1-3). The Tulsa East Central product tallied what is believed to be a school freshman scoring record in the contest.

The Gorillas used a 13-3 run to break open a 54-54 game and seize control against the Blue Tigers. Pitt State led by as many as 13 points in the second half and fought off a late charge by Lincoln for the win.

Porter made 11 of 17 shots from the field and seven of eight free throws, adding six rebounds to his scoring line.

Senior forward JaVon McGee came off the bench to post a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Pitt State grabbed 11 more offensive rebounds and the Gorillas owned a 20-rebound advantage in the contest.

Marky Nolen also chipped in with 12 points for the Gorillas.

Lincoln got 18 points apiece from Cedric Ridle and Charles Cole. Montez Fifer added 15 points and Sean Harris finished the game with 11 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots.

Pitt State will wrap up the two-day tournament action with a 5 p.m. (CST) match-up against Avila University. The Eagles face the host school, Missouri Southern, in the late game Friday.
