Box Score Box Score | Season Stats

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State Volleyball team suffered a rough start to MIAA Conference play with a 3-0 loss to newcomer Central Oklahoma. The 25-23, 25-23, 25-21 loss was the first loss in straight sets for the Gorillas this season.

Pitt State was its own worst enemy, as unforced errors put the team in a deficit early. Pitt State hit only .070 for the night and had 31 hitting errors and only eight more kills. Central Oklahoma hit .194 with 35 kills and only 17 errors. It was also the first time this season the Gorillas had been outblocked, as UCO put down 7.0 team blocks to 5.0 for the Gorillas.

Only the Pitt State setters recorded any double figures on the night with Hayley Hansford recording 16 assists, and Becca Pearson, 15. Chrystal Whitten led the team in kills with eight. Kirsten Erikson added seven and Nicole, Rockhold, six. Sam Wyatt led the team with eight digs, Whitten had seven and Pearson tallied six. Brooke Fay had three blocks for the Gorillas. Rockhold and Erikson each had two.

Pitt State will need to make a quick recovery as No. 1 Nebraska-Kearney visits John Lance Arena for the first time as a member of the MIAA. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
