PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Gorilla Volleyball team will host its annual Girl Scout Day on Saturday, September 29 prior to its match against No. 8 Central Missouri.

All area Girl Scouts eighth grade and under are invited to a clinic put on by head coach Ibraheem Suberu and the Pitt State Volleyball team beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The girls will be taught basic volleyball skills including serving, passing, blocking and hitting, while interacting with the Pitt State team. The clinic will last approximately 50 minutes and is free to all attendees. Girl Scouts and their leaders will be admitted to the match free as well and are invited to participate in a serving challenge between sets two and three.

The match against the No. 8 Jennies begins at 4 p.m. The Jennies are 11-3 overall and 5-0 in MIAA play. They have a .245 attack percentage and average 13.6 kills, 12.5 assists, 1.1 service aces, 14.9 digs and 2.0 blocks per set. The team recently swept the MIAA Volleyball PLayer of the Week honors. Hitter of the Week Bradye Peniston leads the team with a .374 hitting percentage, 3.32 kills and 0.96 blocks per set. Annie Reilly was specialist of the week. The libero averages 4.50 digs per set and has recorded 17 service aces on the year. The Jennies have won each of their last eight matches.

Pitt State is coming off its first conference win of the season after defeating Southwest Baptist 3-1 on Wednesday evening in Pittsburg. The Gorillas hit as a .215 clip and average 13.6 kills, 12.6 assists, 1.2 service aces 16.4 digs and 2.0 blocks per set. 

Pitt State has four regular players averaging 2.00 kills or more per set, led by seniors Brooke Fay and Leah Flynn with 2.53 kps. Fay leads the team with a .309 hitting percentage and 40 blocks on the year. Nicole Rockhold leads the team in both digs (2.94 dps) and service aces (17).
