Volleyball Fights for Five Set Win Over Southwest Baptist

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Madi Mosier had a break out match for the Gorillas, as Pitt State came from down 2-1, to win the final two sets and take a 3-2 win (22-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-23, 15-13)over Southwest Baptist in Bolivar on Tuesday (October 1) night.

Only one set was decided by more than four points. That was Pitt State's decisive 25-15 set two win. The final two sets were decided by only two points each.

Mosier led the Gorillas with a career-high 19 kills and hit at a .400 clip for the match. She had only three hitting errors in 40 attempts on the night. She was just short of a double-double as she also had nine digs and was second on the team in blocks with four, including one solo block. She also had a service ace.

Jordan Rehm was a tough defensive presence in the back row as she recored 49 digs.

Crystal Whitten added a double-double for the Gorillas with 16 kills and 13 digs. Setter Hayley Hansford also earned a double-double with 47 assists and 11 digs. Abbie Smith contributed double figures for the third consecutive game with 10 kills. Paula Okrutna had the best hitting percentage on the night with eight kills and no errors in 17 attempts for a .471 hitting percentage. She also led the team in blocks with five.

As a team, the Gorillas tallied 10 total blocks in the match, the third time this season they have recorded double figures in blocks. The 120 digs marks the most digs by the squad this season and the second consecutive match with 100 or more digs.

Pitt State will host over 20 alumni players in its annual alumni match on Friday, October 4 before traveling to Warrensburg for a 3 p.m. match against the Central Missouri Jennies on Saturday, October 5.
