PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Despite a 3-0 loss to Northwest Missouri (7-7, 3-2 MIAA), the PIttsburg State Volleyball team (6-10, 3-5 MIAA) was able to raise over $100 for Angels Among Us to support their efforts to help women in the Pittsburg community battling breast cancer.

Gorilla fans were asked to donate $10 for every block put down by the Gorillas in the match. The team finished with three solo blocks and two block assists. The generous Gorilla fans giving doubled the amount the Gorillas asked for.

Pitt State lost by scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-20. The team hit .145 to .290 for the Bearcats.

Crystal Whitten led the Gorillas with 12 kills. Abbie Smith added eight and Madi Mosier, seven. Jordan Rehm led the Gorillas with 15 digs, while Whitten completed a double-double with 10. Setter Hayley Hansford was just short of a double-double as she had 29 assists and eight digs. 

Pitt State travels to Joplin, Mo. for the Missouri Southern Invitational on Friday and Saturday, October 11 and 12. The Gorillas will face East Central and Arkansas Tech and 2 and 6 p.m. respectively on Friday and return on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
