ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Pittsburg State Volleyball team improved to 12-10 on the season with two wins in the Maryville Triangular on Saturday (October 19). The Gorillas defeated William Jewell, 3-1, and Maryville, 3-0.

Pitt State won the first match of the day 3-1 over William Jewell. The Gorillas won the first two sets by a narrow margin, 25-21 and 25-23. There were eight ties and two lead changes in the first set alone. The Cardinals won the thid set handily, 25-14. The Gorillas bounced back to take the third set, 25-18.

The Gorillas hit .141 as a team for the match. William Jewell hit slightly better at.154. The Cardinals also had more blocks, 8.0 to 5.0. Pitt State managed 10 more digs 85 to 75.

Freshman Madi Mosier led the Gorillas as she recorded a double-double for the match with 15 kills and 14 digs. Paula Okrutna added 12 kills and Crystal Whitten, 11. Jordan Rehm led all players with 26 digs, while Aimee Wood added 19. Haylee Gregory led the team with three blocks.

The Gorillas had a bit easier time with the host team, winning the night cap by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-19. The team recorded a season-high .358 attack percentage with only seven attack errors in the three sets. The Gorillas also had five team blocks. Pitt State was able to hold Maryville to a .198 attack percentage and did not allow any blocks.

Mosier once again led the Gorillas in the second match of the day. She recorded another double-double with a match-high 15 kills and 10 digs. Paula Okrutna added 13 kills and Jordan Rehm had 16 digs. Okrutna also led teh team with four blocks (one solo and three assisted), while Haylee Gregory added three block assists.

Pitt State will play three matches this week, including two at home. The week begins on Thursday with a road match against Missouri Western at 7 p.m. The team will step out of conference for a home match against Saint Mary at 7 p.m. on Friday (October 25), followed by Lindenwood at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
