ST. JOSEPH. Mo. -- The Pittsburg State Volleyball team had a six-game win streak snapped with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-23) loss to Missouri Western on Thursday (Oct. 24) evening.
The Gorillas came out strong in the first set to win 25-22, but fell in the next three consecutive to move their record to 12-11 overall and 3-6 in the conference. Missouri Western evened its record at 12-12 and 5-5 in MIAA play.
The teams were fairly even in the match, but the Griffons had 11 more kills and hit at a slightly higher percentage, .296 to .240.
Madi Mosier again led the Gorillas with 15 kills and just missed a double-double with nine digs. Crystal Whitten added 14 kills. Jordan Rehm had 13 digs to lead the Gorillas. Hayley Hansford also just missed a double-double as she had 42 assists and nine digs. Hansford and Haylee Gregory each had two blocks.
Pitt State will play at home this weekend. The team will play a 7 p.m. non-conference match against St. Marys on Friday. Prior to the match there will be a free Halloween Kids Day beginning at 5:30 p.m. All children ages 4-12 are invited to attend. There will be face-painting, relay races, poster making and a prize walk. Children are invited to stay for the match and sit with student-athletes from several sports and to take part in a costume contest between sets two and three.
