Pittsburg State will play its home opener on Thursday, November 14 at 6 p.m. against Henderson State. The week will continue on Saturday with a 10:30 a.m. game at MIssouri S & T in Rolla, Mo. against Minnesota-Duluth.
Scouting Henderson State
The Reddies have played one game this season, a 80-44 win over the Hendrix College Warriors on November 9 in Arkadelphia, Ark. Last season the team was 13-14 overall abd 8-12 in Great American Conference play.
The Henderson State squad is made up primarily of returners with only one freshman and one redshirt freshman on the roster. The team has two seniors, Shareka Maner and Krystal Beachum.
In the first game of the season, Dulincia Keener led the Reddies with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Aungelique Sledge also scored in double figures with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Beachum and Tiara Davis were just under double figures with nine points a piece. Beachum led teh team with three assists and four steals, while Davis had 11 rebounds.
Scouting Minnesota-Duluth
The Bulldogs opened their season on Saturday with an 80-71 win over Bethel. The team was 14-13 last season and return 10 players from the 12-13 season.
The team shot .429 from the floor and .316 from three-point range. Bethel outrebounded the Bulldogs by 14, 45-31.
Four Bulldog players scored in double figures in the game. Kalli Zimmerman lead the team with a double-double, 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Schultz chipped in 12 points, Rachel Parupsky, 11, and Hannah Niewald, 10.
Scouting Pittsburg State
Pittsburg State is 1-2 on the season after opening the season at the CCA Tipoff Classic in Anaheim, Calif. The team defeated Montana State-Billings, 77-71, before losing to No. 9 Concordia, 62-68, and Indianapolis, 73-82. Both MSU-Billings and Indianapolis were receiving votes in the pre-season poll.
Pitt State shot .379 from the floor in the opening weekend and .298 from three point range. The team averaged 37.0 rebounds per game.
Lizzy Jeronimus started the 2013-14 season right where she left off last season, with three straight 20-point games to lead the Gorillas with 21.3 points per game. Over half of her points came from 36-of-43 shooting from the charity stripe. Morgan Westhoff came off the bench to add 12.7 ppg. She hit 12-of-23 threes on the weekend for a .522 three-point shooting percentage. She had a career-high eight threes against Indianapolis on Sunday.
Jeronimus is also the team's leading rebounder with 7.7 rebounds per game. Alex Muff and Kylie Gafford are not far behind her with 5.7 and 4.7 rpg, respectively. Jeronimus and Antqunita Reed lead the team with 2.0 assists per game.
PSU vs. Henderson State
Pitt State has a 7-1 all-time record against Henderson State. The Gorillas are 2-0 in Pittsburg, 0-1 in Arkadelphia, Ark. and 5-0 at neutral sites. The first meeting between teh two teams was a 81-75 PSU win in Siloam Springs, Ark. on Dec. 5, 1987. The one loss was a 73-72 loss in Arkadelphia in the last meeting between the two teams on Dec. 17, 2007.
The largest win in the series was a 23-point Pitt State win, 84-61, in Joplin on November 27, 1998.

This will be the first meeting between the Gorillas and Bulldogs.

Pitt State will play one game next week, traveling along with the men's team to Liberty, Mo. for a Tuesday (November 19) doubleheader at William Jewell. The women's game will tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
She Shoots, She Scores
Junior Lizzy Jeronimus is one of 17 players in school history to score 1,000 points in her career. She finished her sohpomore season with 1,020 points, having scored them in 60 games, second fastest to the 1,000 point mark in school history. Now with 1,084 points, Jeronimus is the 12th leading all-time scorer, just passing former teammate Drew Roberts.
Jeronimus has scored in double figures in all but six games in her career and in 36 straight games, dating back to Feb. 25, 2012, her freshman season. She has scored 20 points or more in four consecutive games and in 23 career games.
Westhoff for THREEEEEE
Junior Morgan Westhoff has already hit 12 threes this season, including a career-high eight threes against Indianapolis. She is only the third person to make eight or more threes in a game in school history. Kara Kinney made eight threes twice in the 2005-06 season. Pitt State's prolific three-point shooting Jenni Miller hit eight threes in a game three times in her career, nine threes once and a school record 11 threes on Jan. 28, 1995 against Truman.
Westhoff has made 79 threes in just over two years at Pitt State, averaging just over one a game for her career. Last season she hit she under two threes a game. This season she has paced herself at four threes per game.
