PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State volleyball team has earned the No. 8 seed in the MIAA Volleyball Tournament and will travel to Warrensburg, Mo. to face top seeded Central Missouri at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19 at 7 p.m. in the UCM Multipurpose Building.
Pitt State will be making its first appearance in the MIAA Tournament since it started again last season. The tournament took a hiatus from 2008 until last season. Prior to the break, the Gorillas had made each of the last five MIAA Tournaments and had a 5-5 record in those games.
The Gorillas come into the match with a 16-15 overall record and a 6-10 record in league play. The Jennies are 29-1 overall and 14-1 in MIAA play. The team's one loss was to Emporia State on October 23. Central Missouri won the previous meeting with Pitt State, 3-1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17), on October 5 in Warrensburg.
Pitt State is lead by freshman Madi Mosier with 2.75 kps and a .258 attack percentage. The Gorillas' setter is sophomore Hayley Hansford who averages 9.83 assists per set, which ranks fourth in the MIAA. Jordan Rehm leads the Gorillas and is sixth in the MIAA with 4.47 digs per set. Ashlen Schwartz adds 2.40 dps. Paula Okrutna and Haylee Gregory share the lead in blocks for the Gorillas, each with 87 blocks on the season.
Central Missouri has four players averaging two or more kills per set, led by Taylor Goodness with 2.99 kps. Annie Reilly leads the team in digs with 5.33 dps. Setter Julia Bates is one of three setters in the MIAA to average 11 or more assists per set with 11.05.
