Volleyball Falls in Final Road Match

EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State Volleyball team lost 3-1 (25-15, 24-26, 25-17, 25-17) to Emporia State in its final road match of the 2013 regular season. 

Pitt State finished the match with 44 kills and 25 errors in 139 attempts for a .137 hitting percentage, 6.0 team blocks, four service aces and four service errors. The Hornets hit .272 for the match with 62 total kills, 10.0 team blocks, six service aces and seven service errors. 

Maggie Highberger led the Gorillas for the first time in her career with a career high 12 kills. Abbie Smith added 10 kills. Jordan Rehm paced the Gorillas with 15 digs, while Hayley Hansford completed a double-double with 29 assists and 11 digs. Paula Okrutna recorded four block assists for the Gorillas, while Haylee Gregory had four.

Emporia State's Carly Spicer led all players with 14 kills. Three additional ESU players, Paige Vanderpool (12), Courtney Haring (13) and Brianna Kaiser (10) also recorded double figure kills. Haring also contributed five blocks.

Pittsburg State will play a midweek match against Central Oklahoma at 7 p.m. on Tuesday November 12. The regular season will finish with the Senior Day match against Missouri Southern at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 16.
