MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Conner Crooker scored a game-high 27 points to lead three Northwest Missouri State University players in double figures and spark the Bearcats to a 75-59 win over Pittsburg State University in the MIAA opener for both schools Thursday (Dec. 5).
Northwest (5-4, 1-0 MIAA) led from start to finish over Pitt State (3-4, 0-1 MIAA). The Bearcats scored the game's first 10 points and led by as many as 13 points in the first half.
The Gorillas climbed within five points of the Bearcats late in the first half, but the Bearcats fought off the challenge and never looked back in the final 20 minutes of play.
Josiah Gustafson scored a team-high 16 points for Pitt State, while Devon Branch chipped in with 11 points.
Pitt State will return to action on Dec. 18 when the Gorillas host West Texas A&M University in a non-conference match-up at 4:30 p.m. (CST) at John Lance Arena.
