PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Gorilla Volleyball team (3-5) will play its first MIAA match on Tuesday (Sept. 17) as the team travels to Edmond, Okla. to take on Central Oklahoma.
The Bronchos are 8-0 overall and are also playing their first MIAA match. The team averages 12.3 kills per set while allowing 10.7 kills per set. Defensively, UCO 17.3 digs and 2.4 blocks per set.
Jullette Smith leads the team with a hitting average of .344, while Barbara Jackson leads the team with 3.44 kills per set. Smith is leading the team with 34 total blocks on the season thus far. Tate Hardaker leads the team with 6.29 digs per set.
Six Gorillas are averaging 1.0 kill or more per set Crystal Whitten leads the team with 4.15 kps. Abbie Smith is second with 1.91 kps followed by Madi Mosier (1.70), Paula Okrutna (1.63) and Haylee Gregory (1.48). Hayley Hansford plays a significant roll in the Gorilla offense as the primary setter. She is averaging 8.81 assists per set.
Pitt State has been strong on the defensive end recording 65 total blocks on the season with Okrutna leading the team with 25 and Gregory just behind her with 24. Jordan Rehm leads the team in digs with 4.85 dps. Hayley Hansford and Whitten also average more than 2.0 dps.
