PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State Volleyball team (3-6, 0-1 MIAA) takes one of the longest trips in the conference this weekend as they travel to No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney (9-1, 1-0 MIAA) and Fort Hays State (0-6, 0-1 MIAA) on Friday and Saturday.

The Gorillas and Lopers will face off at 7 p.m. on Friday (September 20). UNK has won five games straight with its only loss being to Angelo State in the Metro State Tournament last weekend. The Lopers are averaging 13.9 killsand 17.5 digs per set. Ashley Leitner leads the Lopers in kills averaging 4.38 kps with Bailey Sokolowski in second with 2.38 kps and Ellie Pesavento following with 2.36 kps. Liz McGowan leads the team in digs averaging 3.93 dps with Kinslie TeKolste right behind her with 2.70 dps. The team hits at a .277 clip, while holding opponents to a .110 attack percentage. The team averages almost 2.0 blocks per set. A big strength for the Lopers is in their serve and serve receive. The team has 43 aces already on the season, more than double the 20 aces they have given to opponents on the season. 

Fort Hays State will be looking for its first win of the season when the Gorillas come to Hays on Saturday (September 21) at 2 p.m. The team lost its first conference match on Tuesday, 3-0 to Nebraska-Kearney. The Tigers average 10.1 kills and 12.3 digs per set. Madison Schwartz leads the Tigers with 2.00 kps with Jenna Ulrich in a close second at 1.95 kps and Taylor Mares in just behind with 1.8 5kps. On the defensive end, Makenzie Weinman leads the team with 3.65 dps and Sara Hewson adding 2.00 dps. The Tigers hit at only a .103 clip, while allowing opponents a .289 hitting percentage. The team has only 18 service aces on the season and has given up 40 to its opponents. The team averages 1.5 blocks per set, while the opposition gets 2.1 bps.

Pitt State has a .143 attack percentage on the season and records 11.7 kps. The Gorilla's opponents have been only slightly better with a .163 attack percentage and 12.7 kills per set. The team averages 18.4 dps and has been strong on the block with 63.0 total blocks on the season for 2.1 per set. 

Crystal Whitten leads the Gorilla offense with 4.10 kills per set. Abbie Smith adds 2.04 kps. Whitten and Madi Mosier share the team lead in aces with seven a piece on the year. Hayley Hansford has been the team's primary setter and records 9.10 assists per set. Defensively, five Gorillas average 2.00 digs per set or more on the season, led by Jordan Rehm with 5.20. Taylor Wright adds 2.82 dps, Whitten, 2.80, Hansford, 2.17 and Ashlen Schwartz, 2.11 dps. Haylee Gregory leads the team at the net with 0.93 blocks per set. She has 26 total blocks on the season, six solo and 20 assisted. Paula Okrutna also has 26 total blocks on the year for 0.87 bps. Mosier adds 0.70 bps.
