Volleyball Loses to Tigers on the Road

HAYS, Kan. -- After a disappointing first set, the Pitt State Volleyball team (7-16, 4-11 MIAA) fought their way back into the match, lost a close second set, won the third, but ultimately fell in the fourth to lose on the road to Fort Hays State (12-12, 6-9 MIAA) on Saturday (Oct. 25) evening. 

Pitt State struggled in the first set and lost 25-8, producing only three kills with 10 attack errors. 

The second set saw a much improved Gorilla team take the court. The team recorded 15 kills, the same as its opponent, but had three more errors. PSU also had no blocks to 3.0 for the Tigers, allowing the home team the 25-20 win.

Pitt State put everything together in the third set. The Gorillas tallied 17 kills with two team blocks and a service ace to this time win by a score of 25-20.

The score of the fourth set was also 25-20, this time again in favor of Fort Hays State. The Tigers put down two more kills and were also able to put together five team blocks for the win.

Madi Mosier led Pitt State with 18 kills. She recorded a double-double as she also had 11 digs. Paula Okrutna was just under double figures with nine kills, as was Hope Joyner with eight. Hayley Hansford recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 11 digs. Ashlen Schwartz and Aimee Wood each had double digit digs, Schwartz with 17 and Wood with 12. Taylor Wright was just under double digits with nine.

Pitt State will travel to Edmond, Okla. on Tuesday for a midweek match with the Bronchos before returning to John Lance Arena for its final two home games of the season. Friday's (Oct. 31) match will feature a Halloween costume contests for all ages with great prizes in every age group. Saturday will be senior day and a chance for fans to say farewell to seniors Haylee Gregory, Ashley Bell, Paula Okrutna and Aimee Wood.
