Five Players Score in Double Figures En Route to 92-73 Win

MARSHALL, Minn. -- Five Pitt State women's basketball players scored in double figures, as the Gorillas earned a 92-73 win over Southwest Minnesota on Sunday (Nov. 16) afternoon. The No. 24 Gorillas wrapped up their Northern road trip with a 3-0 record.

Four of the five Pitt State starters scored in double figures, led by Lizzy Jeronimus with 25. Kylie Gafford and Cathy Brugman added 14 points each. Brigit Hesser scored 10 and Mikaela Burgess came off the bench to add 10 as well. Jeronimus shot a blistering .818 (9-for-11) from the floor. 

Gafford led the Gorillas with six rebounds and three blocked shots. Paige Lungwitz did not score, but contributed a team-high four assists. 

As a team, the Gorillas shot .586 (34-for-58) from the field overall, as 60 of the team's points were scored in the paint. The team was able to convert 21 Mustangs turnovers into 24 points. 

Jeronimus scored the first points of the game and Pitt State never looked back. A free throw by Jeronimus with 11:43 to go in the first half gave the Gorillas their first double digit lead of the game. Brugman scored a layup with 1:12 remaining in the first half to put Pitt State up 42-22, the first 20-point lead of the game. PSU lead 44-25 at the half. 

Gafford started the second half with a layup for a 21-point Gorilla lead. The Mustangs cut the lead to 19 again, but then Pitt State went on a 13-0 run lasting four minutes to take a 32-point, 61-29, lead, capped by a Burgess three. The Gorillas slowed the pace a little, but never allowed Southwest Minnesota closer than 16 points, ending in a 19-point, 92-73, win.

The Gorillas return to action in the Winstead-Reeves Classic in Maryville, Mo., where they will face Minnesota-Duluth on Friday and William Jewell on Saturday.
