CANYON, Texas — Tez Dumars scored a game-high 19 points to help pace West Texas A&M University to a 72-63 victory over Pittsburg State University Wednesday (Nov. 26) at First United Bank Center.
Dumars made five of 13 shots from the field, but he added nine of nine shooting from the free throw line. WT (2-3) outscored Pitt State (1-3) by five points at the foul line and the Buffs made six more 3-pointers (7 of 27) than the Gorillas (1 of 8) to earn the victory.
Pitt State made 57.1 percent of its shots from the floor (24 of 42) compared to 44.2 percent shooting (23 of 52) by WT.
Trevor Gregory led three Gorillas in double figures with 15 points. Devon Branch added 13 points, while Lamine Dieng made his Pitt State debut and contributed 12 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
David Chavlovich scored 12 points for the Buffs. Miles Gatewood finished with 11 points, while Antjuan Ball added eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Gorillas will return to action Friday (Nov. 28) when they open day one action of the Tarleton State Thanksgiving Classic at Stephenville, Texas.
