EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Pitt State volleyball team ended the weekend with a 3-1 loss (27-25, 25-27, 25-17, 25-17) to Emporia State on Saturday (Nov. 8) evening.

Paula Okrutna led the Gorillas with 13 kills. Madi Mosier had 11 and Maggie Highberger, 10. Ashley Bell was just under double figures with nine. The Gorillas put up 52 kills on the night with a .128 attack percentage. Hayley Hansford recorded 45 assists. 

Defensively, Pitt State had 10 team blocks. Mosier led the team with five while Haylee Gregory added four. Pitt State's defensive specialist, Ashlen Schwartz and Aimee Wood each contributed double figure digs with 19 and 13, respectively.

Each of the first two sets were decided by a 27-25 score, with Emporia winning set one and the Gorillas taking set two. In the second set, Pitt State trailed 20-14, but fought all the way back to tie the match at 22-22, outscoring the Hornets 8-2. The two teams tied again at 23, 24 and 25 before two Hornet errors, one serving and one bad set, gave Pitt State the 27-25 win.

Emporia State took both the third and the fourth sets 25-17.

The Gorillas will finish out the season next week with a Tuesday match at Missouri Southern at 6 p.m. and a Saturday match at Central Oklahoma at 7 p.m.
