Gorillas Drop 92-83 Decision to Lopers

KEARNEY, Neb. -- Ethan Brozek had game highs of 23 points and 18 rebounds to lead the University of Nebraska-Kearney to a 92-83 victory over Pittsburg State University Thursday (Feb. 13).

The Gorillas dropped their fourth straight game to fall to 7-14 overall and 3-11 in MIAA play, while the Lopers improved to 12-10 overall and 8-7 in the MIAA with the victory.

Pitt State scored the game's first six points, but the Gorillas never led againt UNK pushed in front, 10-8, with 11:18 to play in the first half. The Lopers built a six-point first-half lead before settling for a 39-35 edge at halftime.

UNK pushed its margin to seven points in the second half, before Pitt State battled back to trail by just a point, 75-74, on a pair of free throws by Alex Williams with 5:24 to play in the contest.

The Lopers scored the game's next six points to reclaim control before eventually pulling away for the nine-point win.

Devon Branch and Jake Bullard scored 16 points apiece to lead a balanced Pitt State offensive attack. Williams added 15 points while Conner Kjer chipped in with 14.

The Gorillas will return to action Saturday (Feb. 15) when they travel to Hays, Kan., to face MIAA rival Fort Hays State University at 4 p.m. (CST) at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
