TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Bryton Hobbs hit an off balance 3-pointer as time expired to lift Northeastern State University to a 61-60 victory over Pittsburg State University Wednesday (Feb. 19).
 
Hobbs scored 15 of his game-high 22 points in the second half as the RiverHawks (13-10, 8-8 MIAA) came from behind against the Gorillas (7-16, 3-13 MIAA).
 
Pitt State led 60-55 on Connor Kjer's transition layup with 2:00 to play in the contest, but NSU held the Gorillas scoreless down the stretch.
 
Landon DeMasters' three-point play trimmed the margin to 60-58 with 1:31 to go.
 
Jake Bullard missed a jumper with 1:01 remaining, but he tracked down the loose ball to give the Gorillas possession of the ball. Devon Branch then was called for traveling on a drive to the basket with 31 seconds to play.
 
NSU then held the ball for the final shot, setting an on-ball screen at the top of the key to free Hobbs to rise for the guarded jumper.
 
Bullard paced Pitt State with 14 points, while Trevor Gregory also scored in double figures with 10 points. Ethan Cordray made three of five 3-pointers to add nine points. Branch added seven points and eight rebounds.
 
Pitt State led by as many as eight points in the first half of the contest and the Gorillas took a 28-27 halftime advantage.
 
NSU shot 50 percent from the field in the second half after making just 11 of 31 shots from the floor in the opening period. Curtis Evans scored 11 points for the RiverHawks, while Marcus Sheppard added seven points a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
Pitt State will conclude a four-game road swing Saturday (Feb. 22) when the Gorillas travel to Joplin, Mo., to face Missouri Southern at 3 p.m. (CST).
