PITTSBURG -- Southwest Baptist used a 14-0 flurry in the second half to turn a six-point game into a commanding 20-point lead which propeled the Bearcats to an 89-74 road win over Pittsburg State Tuesday (Feb. 4).

SBU (11-10, 4-8 MIAA) led 63-57 when the Gorillas' Devon Branch completed a three-point play with 8:39 to play in the game. Two minutes, and 14 points, later the Bearcats stretched their margin to 77-57 on Afam Obukwelu's 3 pointer.

Pitt State (7-12, 3-9 MIAA) never got any closer than 10 points down the stretch.

Branch led all scorers with 32 points. He made 12 of 20 shots from the field and added eight of 12 free throw attempts. The rest of the team combined to make 16 of 41 shots (.390).

Conner Kjer added 14 points and a team-leading nine rebounds, while Jake Bullard chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Desi Barmore posted a double-double with a team-leading 26 points and 10 rebounds for SBU. Derrick Stewart added 17 points, while David Gabrovsek tossed in 15. Rashaad Brown-Peterson also finished with 14 points.

SBU converted 14 of 29 3-pointers in the contest, outscoring PSU by 10 points from long-range.

Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Feb. 8) when the Gorillas host MIAA rival Central Oklahoma at 3:30 p.m. (CST) at John Lance Arena.
