PUEBLO, Colo. -- The Pittsburg State lost two 3-1 matches to Adams State (25-17, 21-25, 25-19, 25-20) and Colorado State-Pueblo (25-19, 18-25, 25-21, 25-22) on Saturday (September 14). The Adams State match was played in Colorado Springs and the second in Pueblo.
In the first match, the Gorillas led Adams State 13.0 to 7.0 on the block. Haylee Gregory led the team with eight blocks (one solo and seven assisted). Madi Mosier added six (one solo, five assisted) and Hope Joyner had five (all assisted).
The Grizzlies hit slightly better than Pitt State, .189 to .139, and had eight service aces.
Mosier and Ary Crittleton each recorded 14 kills for the Gorillas. Mosier added 10 digs for a double-double. Setter Hayley Hansford also recorded a double-double with 41 assists and 11 digs. Ashlen Schwartz talled a match-high 15 digs.
The co-host of the Steel and Silver Classic, CSU-Pueblo bested the Gorillas on offense, hitting at a .277 clip with 59 kills and 20 errors in 141 attempts. Pitt State had a .195 attack percentage with 51 kills and 25 errors in 133 attempts.
The teams were even in blocks with 10.0 a piece. Pitt State had five more digs. The Thunderwolves had only one more ace, but had 10 service errors to only three for the Gorillas.
Mosier again led the Gorillas with 12 kills. Crittleton and Ashley Bell each put down 11 kills. Hansford recorded another double-double with 37 assists and 11 digs. Schwartz again led the team in digs with 18.
Bell was Pitt State's blocking leader with six block assists. Crittleton, Haylee Gregory and Joyner each had four blocks.
The Gorillas now fall to 3-5 on the season. They will host Southwest Baptist in the 2014 home and conference opener on Tuesday, September 16 in John Lance Arena.
