PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pitt State Volleyball team is encouraging all its fans to come to John Lance Arena and help them "Set the Record" against Missouri Southern on Tuesday, September 23 at 7 p.m.
Set the Record Night is an annual collaboration between Pitt State Athletics and Dr. Bill Stobart's class in the Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation. The class works to come up with a marketing plan to encourage fans to help break the previous school record for attendance. This year the class is attempting to break the record of 2,250 set in 2012.Â
Admission to all Pitt State volleyball matches is free.
The Gorillas enter the match with a 4-7 record overall and a 1-2 record in conference play. The team won its first conference match 3-2 over Southwest Baptist before losing the next two to Lindenwood, 3-2, and No. 14 Central Missouri, 3-0.Â
As a team, Pitt State averages 12.3 kills, 13.9 digs and 2.0 blocks per set. The team has a .222 attack percentage. It has recorded 43 service aces.
Madi Mosier leads the Gorillas with 3.64 kps and a .287 attack percentage. Paula Okrutna adds 2.51 kps, though she has not played in the team's last seven matches. Ary Crittleton did not play in the first four matches, but since has been a great contributor for the Gorillas wil 2.41 kps. Hayley Hansford pushes the Gorilla offense with 9.89 assists per set. Ashlen Schwartz and Hansford lead the team with seven service aces a piece, while Maggie High Berger, Taylor Wright and Chandler Templin each have six.
Defensively, Schwartz leads the team with 4.24 dps, though she has missed the last three matches. Aimee Wood missed all but the last two matches and has contributed 3.50 dps. Mosier adds 2.20 dps, while Shontane Addison, Okrutna and Hansford each get just under 2.00 dps. Haylee Gregory leads the team with 36.0 total blocks on the season. Mosier is just behind her with 31.0. Ashley Bell adds 25.0, while Ary Crittleton has 21.0.
The Lions are 3-8 on the season and 0-3 in the MIAA. The team lost 3-0 to both Central Oklahoma and No. 4 Nebraska-Kearney and 3-1 to Fort Hays State.Â
The team averages 11.0 kills, 14.8 digs and 2.2 blocks per set. Katie Politte leads with 3.15 kps. Krishna Merriman adds 2.83 and Callie Whetstone, 2.17. Whetstone leads the team with 51 blocks. Katie Wiele leads the team with 4.18 dps. Four other players get 2.00 dps or better. Abby Finder is the team's setter with 9.12 aps.Â
