Volleyball to Play Three Conference Matches This Week

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Pittsburg State will host No. 14 Central Oklahoma on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. The Gorillas will then travel to their next two contests against Southwest Baptist on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. and Missouri Southern on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.
 
The Gorillas enters the week winless, losing to Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western in three sets this past weekend. As a team, Pittsburg State hits only a .133 clip and averages 10.8 kills 15.8 digs, 1.4 blocks and 10.1 assists per set. 
 
Maggie Highberger (1.86 kps) and Lana DaSilva (1.74 kps) are two of the offensive leaders for the Gorillas, and Taylor Unke hits a team-high .230 clip. Setting duo Hayley Hansford and Taylyn Schwartz both average well over 4 assists per set. DaSilva also has 38 total blocks on the season, while Unke records 31. Defensive specialist Ashlen Schwartz digs up 4.40 balls per set and leads the team in service aces with 13.
 
No. 14 Central Oklahoma travels to Pittsburg with a 15-1 record after back-to-back wins on the road against Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri last weekend. As a team, UCO hits a conference-leading clip of .290, while averaging 13.6 kills per set.  They also dig up 17.26 balls per set, block 2.14 balls per set, and ace 1.30 serves per set.
 
Barbara Jackson and Taylor Bevis headline the UCO attack with 3.84 and 3.22 kps respectively. Allison Barr hits a team- and conference-high clip with a .376 attack percentage. Senior libero Whitney Gifford is the team's leader in digs and service aces, with 5.46 dps and 16 total service aces on the season. Jordan Spence is strong at the net with 60 total blocks, 55 of which are solo.
 
Southwest Baptist is currently 2-12, most recently falling to both No. 12 Washburn and Emporia State on their home court this past weekend. The Bearcats collectively hit a .133 clip, while averaging 10.8 kps and 10.1 aps.  They also record 13 dps and 1 bps.
 
Taryn Martin leads the offense attack with 2.55 kps, as Payton White hits a team-high .192 clip. Freshman Anna Stuehn records 6.44 aps on the season as the team's setter and has aced 16 serves this season. Defensively, libero Hannah Blount leads the backcourt with 4.24 dps, while junior Kalyn Sotomayor leads at the net with 17 total blocks.
 
Missouri Southern is 1-14 on the season, as they earned their first win of the season last weekend, sweeping Arkansas-Monticello at home in three sets. The Lions collectively average 9.8 kps, 8.9 aps, 1.9 bps and 14.1 dps, while hitting a .126 clip.
 
The Lions are led offensively by Bridgette Jaeger, who averages 2.27 kps, and Callie Whetstone, who hits a .281 clip and records 2.06 kps. They also have aced eight serves each this season. Abby Finder handles the setting duties for the Lady Lions, averaging 7.33 aps. Whetstone also leads in blocks with 46 total this season, while defensive specialist Katie Wiele records 3.81 dps thus far.
