PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State Volleyball team won its first home match of the season with a 3-0, 25-16, 25-18, 25-18, win over Missouri Southern on Saturday (November 7) afternoon for Senior Day in John Lance Arena.

The Gorillas had their best offensive match of the season, as they hit .324 as a team with 45 kills and only 12 errors on 102 attempts in the three-set match. Missouri Southern had only 29 kills and 21 errors on the match. The Gorillas also outblocked the Lions, 6.0 to 3.0. The Gorillas had control of the match almost the entire way, with only a total of 6 ties and four lead changes throughout the three sets.

Maggie Highberger led the Gorillas with 11 kills, as she hit .500. Lauren Regier and Lex Fulghum each added eight kills. Fulghum had only one error for a .538 attack percentage. Taylor Unke had seven kills and also recorded only one error. Taylyn Schwartz and Hayley Hansford each had 20 assists in the match and Schwartz added nine digs, just one short of a double-double.

Defensively, Taylor Wright led the Gorillas with 14 digs. Unke put down four block assists, while Regier and Shelbey Baker each had two.

Pitt State will play its final matches of the 2015 season next weekend with a 7 p.m. match against Washburn on Friday and a 6 p.m. match against Emporia State on Saturday.
