PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State Volleyball team (2-26, 2-15 MIAA) played some close sets against No. 14 Washburn, but lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-19) on Friday (November 13) evening at John Lance Arena. Washburn improves to 27-3 on the season and 14-3 in MIAA play.
Pittsburg State hit fairly cleanly in the match. committing no more than three errors in any one set. Washburn just had more opportunities, putting down 53 kills to only 35 for the Gorillas. The Ichabods were also helped by seven service aces. Pittsburg State had the blocking advantage with 6.0 blocks to 2.0 for Washburn.
Noelle Dooley led the Gorillas with eight kills. Taylor Unke added seven kills and had no errors in 11 attempts for a .636 attack percentage. Lauren Regier added six kills and Maggie Highberger, five. Taylor Wright led all players in the match with 23 digs. Shelbey Baker added 14 more for the Gorillas. Erin Wolford led the team in blocks with four block assists.
Pitt State will close out the 2015 season on Saturday witha 6 p.m. match against Emporia State.
