PITTSBURG — Shelby Lopez scored a season-high 19 points to lead six Pittsburg State University players in double figures as the Gorillas cruised to a 96-56 non-conference victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State University Monday (Dec. 14) at John Lance Arena.
The Gorillas (8-1) scored the game's first 11 points and never looked back against the Rangers (1-7). Pitt State extended its margin to 30 points in the second quarter before taking a 53-28 lead to the break. NWOSU never got any closer than 24 points the rest of the way.
Lopez converted seven of 12 shots from the floor, including three 3-pointers. Cathy Brugman added 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, while Kylie Gafford posted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
As a team, Pitt State outrebounded NWOSU, 61-34, including a 26-8 margin on the offensive glass. The Gorillas also recorded 22 assists among the squad's 39 field goals. Pitt State committed just four turnovers in the contest.
Brenlee McPherson chipped in with 13 points for the Gorillas, while Mikaela Burgess and Elena Flott added 11 points apiece.
Jaylan Robinson scored a game-high 20 points, including six of 12 shooting from 3-point range, to pace the Rangers. Kamera Bozeman added 10 points.
The Gorillas will return to action Wednesday (Dec. 16) when they entertain Washburn University in MIAA action at 5:30 p.m. (CST).
