Volleyball Falls in Home Opener

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pitt State Volleyball team (0-12, 0-1 MIAA) lost its home opener to Lindenwood (8-2, 1-0 MIAA) on Friday (September 25) evening in John Lance Arena. 

Lindenwood took the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-23. The Gorillas came back to win set three, 25-21. A .041 hitting percentage in the fourth set for the Gorillas and 16 kills for Lindenwood ended the match with a 25-12 win for the Lions. 

Lauren Regier led the Gorillas with 10 kills. Regier also hit .391 on the night with only one error in 23 attempts. Lana DaSilva added eight kills. She also had two service aces and a team-leading four block assists. 

In her first match as a Gorilla, Shelbey Baker led the team with 18 digs. Ashlen Schwartz also had double figure digs w ith 17, while Taylor Wright added 12.

The Gorillas hit .148 for the match and put down 4.0 team blocks.

Lindenwood's Bailey Dvorak led all players with 19 kills. The Lions hit at a .288 clip and tallied 10.0 team blocks. Sarah Makowski led all players with seven block assists.

Pitt State will host a Girl Scout Day tomorrow (September 26) prior to the 4 p.m. match against No. 6 Central Missouri. Girl Scouts can join the Gorillas for a pre-game meal at 1 p.m., followed by a clinic by the team and coaches at 1:30 p.m. The Girl Scouts are invited to watch the Gorillas' pre-game warm up and stay for the match against the Jennies.
