PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Pittsburg State women fell short Thursday night (Jan. 7) as the Gorillas dropped in an 87-69 decision to the 5-7 Central Missouri Jennies.
Central Missouri led at half 35-30, the Jennies scored 34 points in the third quarter and extended the lead, 69-48. The Gorillas could not recover in the fourth, with a final of 87-69.
The Gorillas fell to 11-4 on the season and 5-4 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association in their first home game of 2016. Central Missouri improved to a 5-7 overall record and a 3-4 in the conference.
PSU shot a solid 45.3 percent (24-53) from the field, but committed 18 turnovers to the Mules nine.
Mikaela Burgess led the Gorillas with 22 points, hitting 6-of-12 from the three-point line. Kylie Gafford went 6-of-8 from the field and 4-for-6 from the foul line to add 18 points and seven rebounds for the night. Paige Lungwitz added 13 points and three rebounds.
The Gorillas return to John Lance arena Saturday, January 9, at 1:30 p.m. to take on the Southwest Baptist Bearcats.Â
