EMPORIA, Kan. – The Pitt State Volleyball team ended the 2016 season with a 6-24 record overall and a 4-14 MIAA mark after a 3-1 (25-15, 25-16, 19-25, 25-16) loss to Emporia State on Saturday (November 12). 

Pitt State struggled, hitting .090 for the match, but had a strong showing in the third set with a .469 attack percentage. The Hornets hit .234 for the match. They also outblocked the Gorillas 18.0 to 4.0. Pitt State did tally more digs, with four players recording double figure digs. 

Maggie Highberger put together a double-double in her final match with 16 kills and 11 digs. She also led Pitt State with three blocks. Ashlen Schwartz added 23 digs to finish her career with 1541, the fifth highest total in school history. Taylor Wright also had double figure digs with 12. 

Cal VanBuskirk recorded a double-double with 12 digs and 45 assists on the Gorillas' 50 kills. Lauren Regier added 12 kills. Zoey Qi was just short of double figures with nine kills. 

The Gorillas finished the season with four more wins than the 2015 season. They will return four players that started 10 or more matches this season, along with six more players that saw action in at least half of the matches.
