Gorillas Fall to Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, 63-60

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team rushed out to a 19-4 lead against the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez but couldn't hold on down the stretch in dropping a 63-60 decision Wednesday (Nov. 23) in the Puerto Rico Challenge.

Dakota Jones scored a team-leading 16 points for Pitt State (1-4) while Isaiah Hick added 10 points in the contest. The Gorillas shot 40.8 percent from the field on 20 of 49 shooting. Pitt State turned the ball over 20 times in the game.

Luis Lopez led all scorers with 24 points to pace Mayaguez (1-6). Mayaguez made 22 of 47 shots (.468), shooting 65 percent from the field in the second half (13-20) to overcome a 28-22 halftime deficit.

The Gorillas will return to action at 11 a.m. (CST) Thursday (Nov. 24) with a match-up against St. Edward's (Texas) University.
