SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The St. Edward's University men's basketball team outscored Pittsburg State University, 10-2, in the game's final two minutes to break a 52-52 tie and claim a 62-54 win Thursday (Nov. 24) in the Puerto Rico Challenge.
The Hilltoppers (3-3) outscored the Gorillas (1-5) by 12 points at the free throw line in the contest to overcome a 30.4 percent shooting day (17-56).
Josh Gramlich led three SEU players in double figures with 15 points, while Ramir Burton added 12 points and Ethan Gilbert finished with 11 points. James Taylor chipped in with nine point and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Hilltoppers.
Isaiah Hicks paced Pitt State with 12 points and eight rebounds. Brandon Clifford added nine points, while R.J. Pair and Jordan Phelps finished with seven points apiece. Creighton Brinker chipped in with five points, seven rebounds and a career-high five blocked shots.
The Gorillas shot 35.8 percent from the field in the game, making 19 of 53 shots.
Pitt State will close out its three-day schedule in the Puerto Rico Challenge with an 11 a.m. (CST) match-up against the College of Saint Rose (N.Y.) Friday (Nov. 25).
