PITTSBURG -- The No. 23 ranked Pittsburg State University women's basketball team kept its torrid pace, streaking to the Gorillas 10th straight victory with a 70-53 decision against the University of Nebraska-Kearney Saturday (Feb. 13).
Pitt State (21-4, 15-4 MIAA) pulled way in the fourth quarter againt pesky UNK (12-12, 8-10 MIAA) to send the Gorillas senior class out in style on Senior Day at John Lance Arena.
Kylie Gafford had game highs of 27 points and eight rebounds in her final home game for Pitt State. Fellow senior Cathy Brugman added four points in limited minutes after suffering a head laceration which required stitches late in the Gorillas' victory over fifth-ranked Fort Hays State University Thursday (Feb. 11).
Paige Lungwitz and Mikaela Burgess added 13 points apiece for the Gorillas, who shot 42.4 percent from the field in the game (25 of 59). Pitt State owned a 38-27 rebounding margin over the Lopers, including a 14-7 edge on the offensive glass.
Laramey Becker scored a team-leading 18 points for UNK.
