PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field teams will host the 2016 MIAA Indoor Championships this weekend (Feb. 26-28) at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The three-day meet begins Friday (Feb. 26) at 3 p.m. (CST) with the women's pentathlon competition. The men's heptathlon competition also begins at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Day two action of the meet gets started at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 27) with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon action. The full meet swings into gear at 1 p.m. Saturday, while Sunday's events begin at 11 a.m.
Admission for the 2016 MIAA Indoor Championships is $15 for a weekend pass or $8 for a daily pass. Day passes are $4 for college students (with valid I.D.) and children ages 3-18. Two year olds and under are admitted free. The 2016 MIAA Indoor Championships also will be available via web stream at
http://portal.stretchinternet.com/pittstate/. Single day passes to access the web stream are $9.95.
The University of Central Missouri women are the defending MIAA champions. The Jennies won the conference indoor meet at Warrensburg, Mo., last year en route to capturing the 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships. UCM compiled 159 points to defeat second-place Lincoln University (142 points) by 17 points. The Jennies stopped a string of four straight MIAA indoor titles for the Blue Tiger women.
The Pittsburg State University men will seek their third straight MIAA Indoor Championship in 2016. The Gorillas compiled 120 points to edge the host school, UCM (108 points), by 12 points in the final standings.
