PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams will enjoy a busy weekend of action as the Gorillas prepare to host a pair of meets: the 37th Annual Jock's Nitch/PSU High School Gorilla Relays Friday (Apr. 3) and the 18th Annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic Saturday (Apr. 4) at the new track & field facility located immediately south of the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The High School Gorilla Relays begin at 3 p.m. (CDT) Friday with events scheduled until 9:25 p.m. On Saturday, Pitt State will welcome 15 additional teams to the Gorilla Classic, which gets underway at 10 a.m. The field of competitors includes MIAA rivals Missouri Southern and Washburn. Admission to each meet is $5.
The Pitt State men are the four-time defending NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field champions. The Gorillas are coming off capturing their fourth consecutive NCAA-II Indoor Track & Field championship as well last month. The Pitt State women have won back-to-back indoor national crowns in 2025 and 2026. The Gorillas placed third nationally at 2025 outdoor nationals after securing the 2024 NCAA-II Outdoor National Championship.
